Weekend First World War Battlefield Tour of the Ypres Salient
One of the many advantages of living in the Netherlands is the proximity of so many interesting places within a couple of hours’ drive. One area in particular really worth visiting whilst here is the former First World War battlefields in Belgium and France reachable by car from the Amsterdam in 3 hours and 4 hours respectively.
Battlefield Tour-guide John Cameron-Webb MBE will be running a battlefield tour of the Ypres Salient of World War One on the weekend of 4th and 5th October 2025.
The weekend tour looks at the 4 main battles in and around the Ypres Salient between 1914 and 1918. Visits will be made to important museums, original WW1 trenches and preserve battleground, Commonwealth War Graves cemeteries and impressive monuments. The tour will focus on the life of the Tommy in the trenches and look at how the BEF developed its ability to wage war leading up to victory and armistice in 1918. The tour will also include participation in the Daily Act of Remembrance at the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing on the Saturday evening.
Costs for this weekend will be transport, accommodation, meals, museums and an honorarium of €25.00 per person to cover tour costs.
