Tea, scones and March musical madness at the English Bookshop

Tea, scones and March musical madness at the English Bookshop

English Bookshop Amsterdam, Sunday 3 March 2013It’s Sunday afternoon around 2:15pm and I wander into the English Bookshop, tiptoe down the stairs into the secret children’s grotto…shhhhhhhh!…and discover pure magic:  a dancing Gruffalo, a grooving Pooh bear and live music from John Cameron-Web’s band 4SomeFolk

By John RichardsonIMG_4349

Gruffalo, Pooh and 4SomeFolkThere were some humans in the audience too, including Britsoc members Wouter and Michaela with baby Julian, plus Kirsten and Duncan.IMG_4352

And what better way to spend Sunday afternoon: tucking into tea and scones, dancing with a Gruffalo and singing along with the band.IMG_4324

4SomeFolk consists of  folk lovers Anika, Hans, Louis and John. The latter three played together for years in the folk group Knijn. When Knijn broke up in early January 2011 after 30 years, Hans, John and Louis realised that their musical candles were not yet extinguished. They decided to reform with John’s wife Anika—what a voice!

4SomeFolk play mostly acoustic English (folk) music from all over the world, and specialise in four-part harmony. Accompanied by guitars, bass, mandolin and banjo.

You can find out more on their website at Here you’l find biographies, pictures and where they will be playing next. You can also leave your comment in the guestbook!4SomeFolk
