As the (not so) new minister of the English Reformed Church situated in the Begijnhof in the centre of Amsterdam, I’m delighted to introduce myself to Britsoc.
I’ve been here now for almost exactly a year, coming from Cambridge in the UK where I had taught for 9 years in a theological college prior to ministering to two congregations in the city, also for 9 years.
Prior to Cambridge, I was a minister in the London Borough of Hackney. Before that I began my ministry in Aberdeen, having been brought up in Scotland and where I trained for the ministry.
I’m married to Sally, who is a Learning Support Co-ordinator at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge. She now works there part-time, commuting from Amsterdam for half the week. We have four grown-up children.
I’ve loved living in Amsterdam for the past year. The English Reformed Church congregation is wonderfully diverse and the city is so rich in history and culture. I haven’t yet been able to participate in any Britsoc events, but I plan to and look forward to meeting more of the British community based here in this remarkable city.
