|Begin the New Year with Pema Dorjee! We, at the Tara Bodong foundation would like to wish you a joyful and rewarding New Year! Just like our school for girls which is taking shape and changing the landscape of Lumla, the Tara Bodong Foundation continues to grow and cement its mission to give our ‘daughters’ in Lumla a brighter future.Last year was a milestone year for the foundation – we launched our website www.tarabodong.org, we participated in the first ever “International Day of the Girl” by launching our annual tulip campaign and we increased our support base to include, Amsterdam, The Hague and Leiden. We also arranged a very successful Christmas Party, a Walk-a-Thon, participated at Expatica’s ‘I am not a Tourist Fair’ in Amsterdam as well as a number of seasonal fairs in het Gooi.
In all, we raised more than €22,000, enabling us to commence the first phase of construction of the Lumla nunnery/girls’ school. These huge gains would not have been possible without you! And, in return we reach out with a warm and joyful “thank you!”
As we continue on our journey into the future, we are pleased to invite you to once again meet with our project leader and good friend, Geshe Pema Dorjee as he pays his annual visit to the Netherlands.Beginning Monday 21st January, Pema la will embark on a week of activities during which he will meet with old friends; including students, business people and teachers.Just as he did last year, he will share his knowledge on how to cope with the day-to-day challenges we face in our lives and give a personal update on the Lumla nunnery/girls’ school and the surrounding community. Please have a look at the programme on the right and register early via our website www.tarabodong.org.
Places for most of the events are limited. We look forward to seeing you there and answering your questions. Together with the Tara Bodong Foundation, you are helping to break the cycle of poverty that plagues India’s remote North Eastern province of Arunachal Pradesh.Once again thank you for your valuable support! Remember, with your help, we are providing a home and education for young girls between the ages 8 and 14 years.
After completing their education in modern subjects and Buddhist traditions, these ‘future mothers’ will become role models in their own communities, working as teachers and social and health care workers.
