The winter edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week struts the streets from 18 to 27 January 2013. Taking place twice each year, this international fashion event not only brings together the cream of the international scene, but also reaches out to the general public with its DOWNTOWN programming.
During the first Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW) edition of 2013, this international event will reach out to Amsterdam residents and visitors more than ever before. Its traditional DOWNTOWN public programming will be bolstered by the first ever Fashion Weekend, taking place on the streets around the ‘Fashion & Museum District’ – Beethovenstraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, Van Baerlestraat and P.C. Hooftstraat. On the weekend of 19 and 20 January, more than 60 fashion events will take place in the area, including pop-up stores, exhibitions, fashion shows and fashion walking routes. Throughout the weekend, many of the local fashion boutiques will also offer special discounts and deals.
One of the most memorable events of the winter DOWNTOWN programming is set to be ‘Models on Ice’, a special fashion event on the ice rink at Museumplein (19 January, 16:30).
Professional catwalk shows
Of course, Amsterdam Fashion Week is also an international event for the fashion industry and press. Industry guests can experience 35 shows during the 2013 winter programme. Spread throughout locations at the Westergasfabriek, AFW will offer the first glimpses of the international autumn/winter 2014 collections.
